Current Project: Reversible A-Line Dress

So my current project is to work on a reversible A-line dress.  I decided to make it reversible because once I figured out how to do it, I thought it would be easier than not making it reversible.  A google search yeilded lots of beautiful dresses (here is a link to my favorite on etsy) but no free patterns.  So I bought a pattern for a slip dress and went about figuring out how to make it reversible…

My first step was to make prototypes a few inches big and I couldnt figure it out.  After a few days of playing with it I took it to make grandmother and she pinned it up and give me instructions.  I hope to work on it today so I will post directions and pictures tomorrow.  Based on her instructions I think it is going to be easy and will save lots of money since she is still small – its about 3 dollars in fabric..

Craft-o-matic: My thoughts on Baby Leg Warmers

So as the new mother of a little girl, I found it necessary to adorn her in leg warmers… call it a throw back to 1985 or a practical way to adorn her legs in dresses in the winter.  I knew there was a product on the market but I found that it was too expensive to warrant a variety and I like a variety.  A quick google search yeilded lots of results – so here is the final product and a link to the most helpful resources..

Lessons I learned and Modifications

As a beginning sew-er my machine doesn’t handle serging so I sewed the seam with a straight stitch to give it a nice crisp line and then went around again with a zig zag stitch to finish the edges and help prevent fraying.  Also, since my daughter is only 7 weeks old in these pictures I found using little girl’s knee highs.  I imagine as she gets older I will start using adult knee highs.
